Japan Indonesia Scholarship (JIPS)

The Japan Indonesia Presidential Scholarship Program

Funded by a grant from the Government of Japan, the Japan Indonesia Presidential Scholarship Program (JIPS) supports PhD studies in an academic field of study covered by ten Indonesian Centers of Excellence (CoE) participating in the program. Each of these newly established Centers of Excellence is located at a leading higher education institution in the country with a demonstrated track record in the pursuit of excellence. The goal of the program is to promote excellence in research in these Centers to support the Ministry of National Education in its mission to improve the quality of higher education and research in the country.

Who can apply?
Applicants must meet the following general criteria to be eligible for a scholarship:
  • Be a national and resident of Indonesia
  • Be under 45 years at application deadline
  • Must have completed and been awarded a master's degree, or equivalent, at the time of application however, outstanding candidates with a bachelor degree can be considered for a Master-PhD track
  • Have maintained a GPA of at least 3 on a scale of 4 in both undergraduate and graduate studies
Full-time lecturer and/or researcher in a Center of Excellence (CoE) or equivalent institution in Indonesia are encouraged to apply.

What is the Program’s purpose?
The purpose of the Program is to support scholarship recipients in upgrading their qualifications and to provide them with an international study experience at leading academic institutions in World Bank member countries, except Indonesia. During their studies, scholars are encouraged to build and foster academic collaborations and partnerships. On return to Indonesia, scholars are expected to take an active role in the academic life of the sponsoring CoE.
Host Institution
Candidates should seek admission at a university of their choice in World Bank member countries.
What does the scholarship cover?
  • The scholarship covers full tuition for a period of three to four years, and the cost of basic medical and accident insurance usually obtained through the university.
  • A monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books.
  • Economy class air travel between the home country and the host university at the start of the study program and one return journey following the end of the overall scholarship period. In addition to the ticket, scholars receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip.
The benefits only apply to the scholarship recipient.
The JIPS scholarship does not cover:
  • expenses for the scholar's family
  • educational equipment such as computers
What are the fields of study supported by JIPS?
The proposed program of study and research proposal should reflect the sponsoring CoE: Biotechnology, Bioenergy, Infrastructure and Urban Development, Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Bioindustry and Business, Good Corporate Governance, Distance Learning, Special Needs Education, Reproductive Health, Economic Policy.
How are awardees selected?
Eligible candidates are evaluated by the sponsoring Center of Excellence (CoE) which screens the applications according to their selection procedures for graduate scholarships. Final awards are made by a Steering Committee, based on the following:
  • academic records
  • professional and academic experience; and
  • relevance of proposed program of study to the corresponding CoE.
Selected candidates will be informed by the relevant CoE.
Scholar’s Commitment
The scholarship recipient will be requested to sign a formal commitment to return and work in his/her sponsoring CoE for a minimum of a two-year period for each year of scholarship received. Each CoE commits to recruit its sponsored scholars upon completion of their PhD studies .
Scholars are expected to mention the JIPS scholarship in any publication related to their doctoral research work, including their thesis, and to provide the Program with a copy of their thesis upon graduation

New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Awards: Indonesia
 


Background  

The New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Awards seek to make a substantial contribution to ASEAN’s development by providing opportunities for postgraduate study (i.e. Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s degree and doctorate/PhD) in New Zealand.
The New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Awards (NZ-AS) are part of the New Zealand’s official development assistance to the ASEAN region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, through the New Zealand Aid Programme, delivers this scholarships scheme.
Under the NZ-AS scheme, up to 170 scholarships are available to candidates from ASEAN countries. From the total of 170, up to 50 scholarships per annum are available for Indonesian applicants.
The scholarships are for full-time study (See the scholarships benefits) at one of nine eligible New Zealand institutions. See the list of eligible New Zealand education institutions

Who can apply?

Individuals who meet the following profile may apply for the NZ-AS scholarships:
  • From the public or private sector;
  • With a proposed field of study in support of sustainable economic development ,as the core focus of the New Zealand Aid Programme, especially on agriculture, renewable energy (Geothermal) and disaster risk management;
  • Strong candidates from all areas will be considered, especially candidates who can demonstrate leadership quality and potential for future leadership;
  • Preferably be under 40 years of age at the time of application for Masters and under 45 years of age at the time of application for PhD
  • Those with work experiences in a field relevant to their intended course of postgraduate study, and can demonstrate a connection between their previous field of study and their intended field of postgraduate study.
Applicants must also meet the general eligibility criteria outlined in the ASEAN Scholarships  under  Indonesia Country Portfolio.

Targeted Candidates

  • People from Eastern Indonesia (West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua and West Papua);
  • Individuals prioritised who are from the Ministries of Agriculture, Forestry, Mineral Resources and Energy, Marine Resources and Fisheries, (including relevant research institutions under those Ministries); Environment; Tourism; Education, Foreign Affairs, National Police, National Agency for Planning and Development and Ministry of Defence (civilian officials).

Scholarship Amounts and Method of Award
  • Scholarships are awarded in the form of tuition credit only.
  • The total award amount will be determined after a review of your application.
  • The total award amount is divided by the number of quarters in your program and credited equally toward each quarter's tuition (except MI Hardship Scholarship; which is a one-time award).

Application and Notification
  • MI Scholarships are available only to newly-enrolling students. Before you may submit a scholarship application, you must have a Letter of Acceptance from MI’s Admission Department.
  • Scholarship applications are available from the Financial Aid or Admissions Department or by download from this site.
  • Completed applications submitted by the appropriate deadline will be reviewed and applicants will be notified of the results within two weeks after the deadline.
Other Information
  • All scholarships are non-transferable and may not be applied to any person, program, or start date other than those for which they were originally awarded.
  • Scholarship recipients who fail to meet minimum academic requirements during their enrollment will forfeit any remaining award balance (see scholarship applications for specific requirements).
Musicianship Scholarship
Musicianship Scholarships are available to new instrument and vocals students (both US and non-US citizens) enrolling in the Bachelor of Music, Associate of Arts, or Certificate in Performance Programs who demonstrate outstanding musicianship. A total of ten Musicianship Scholarships (two per instrument) are awarded for each new program start. The scholarship is applicable for students enrolled in performance (instrument and vocals) programs only, and may not be transferred to “non-performance program” emphases ( Audio Engineering, Music Business, Independent Artist, Guitar Craft, or Film) within an AA or Bachelor degree.
Eligibility
To be considered for a Musicianship Scholarship, you must submit a completed application including:
  • An essay explaining why you should be considered for the scholarship.
  • A video recording displaying your performing skills. Video requirements vary by program; see application for details.
